DotA/HoN is very different to LoL, not just in terms of all the extra mechanics you have to deal with. e.g. proper laning techniques are emphasised a lot more in the former two games, and that combined with other elements means that you can gank a shitton more with less pressure to make it count. Skill ceiling and depth of play is undoubtedly ridiculously increased over LoL.

Dota has always been different from LoL imo. Both games have similar yet different tactics.
As stated by Austro above, laning mechanics are emphasised much more as LoL doesn't have 'deny' and there is no creep block.
LoL is much easier to play, you have skillshot projectiles to help aim, and on top of that you have an extra 2 'summoner' spells to use.
Having brush also makes it easier compared to trees in terms of juking, ganking etc.

Haha I only ever game when it's with friends nowadays, I'm not hardcore into it like I used to be.... although I play Quake by myself, that's probably the only exception. And screw internet cafes, I travel to a uni I don't even go to just to LAN DotA 2 in the library HAHA.
